Fabienne Ann Hiatt (Burrell)

Fabienne Hiatt Burrell was born on July 14, 1950 in Albuquerque, NM.  Her family moved to Las Vegas in 1960.  She attended Las Vegas High School where she was involved in the Chemistry Club.  This interest in science led her to receive a BS degree from University of Arizona in phycology, the study of seaweed and algae.  She met her husband in Fort Collins, Colorado, and they were married in 1980. They have a son and a daughter.  She worked for a while as a stockbroker and medical biller but found her love as a health inspector for Southern Nevada. Fabienne enjoyed land sailing and also had her pilot’s license and was a certified scuba diver.  She and her husband moved back to Las Vegas in 1983 where she took care of her mother who had ovarian cancer.  Fabienne passed away on May 25, 2012, succumbing to the same illness as her mother.

Fabienne was a buddy to me when I started my junior year at LVHS, transferring from Norwin High School in Irwin, PA. Everyone already had friends by their junior year, so I was thankful for Fabienne's friendship and also the Pep Club crowd. It was very interesting to read about Fabienne's unique and accomplished life!
