Sherrel Ray Heaps

Ray Heaps, Jr. 1949 ~ 2008 MAGNA- Sherrel Ray Heaps Jr. "Chick" passed away December 21, 2008 at his home after a short battle with lung cancer.He was born April 6, 1949 to Avilla Bowen and Sherrel Ray Heaps Sr. in Ely, NV. Ray graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1968. He married Donna Gay; later divorced. He married Marilyn Day Thomassen Aug. 2, 1989. He retired from Kennecott Copper after 33 years of service. He was currently employed at Matheson Jr. High School where he was deeply loved and appreciated. Ray loved making western saddles and tack and woodworking of any kind. He also loved to camp and fish. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in anyway. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Shannon (Byron) Christensen, Edie (Mike) Johnson, Heather (Tom) Slowik; sons, Shane Heaps and Stan Thomassen; 27 grandchildren; siblings, Sandra Hendersen, Wendel (Cheri) Heaps, Leslee (Tom) Holmes, Theo (Brad) Brown, Rico (Jan) Marsigley, and Dina (Randy) Reid; and many extended family and friends who loved him dearly. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Pleasant Green Chapel, 8739 W. 3000 S. Friends and family may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 W. 2700 S., and Saturday 11-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
